Afi Tsegah and Zuu, co-hosts of the StayByPlan podcast, have discussed the work behind building a digital media platform and the opportunities emerging in Ghana’s content creation industry.
The pair appeared on Springboard, Your Virtual University, hosted by Rev. Albert Ocran. The programme focused on podcasting, influencing and other digital careers, as well as the ways creators and organisations can connect with younger audiences.
Drawing on their experience with StayByPlan, Tsegah and Zuu described podcasting as a business that involves planning episodes, coordinating a team and developing relationships with brands. They also outlined how creators can earn through online platforms and partnerships with companies seeking to reach specific audiences.
The discussion highlighted the work required to build a following. Creators need to identify their intended audience, produce engaging material, and offer content that stands out. Regular publishing can help strengthen the relationship between creators and their listeners or viewers.
The two hosts also spoke about the demands of producing content alongside other work commitments, including the time involved in recording and preparing episodes. Their experience illustrated the planning and persistence required to develop a podcast into a sustained project.
The programme addressed how businesses can make campaigns more relevant to young people. Ocran emphasised the value of involving young people in shaping content designed for them. The conversation explored the need to adapt communication to the audience and the platform.
Tsegah and Zuu’s appearance also brought attention to the range of skills involved in digital careers, from content development and audience engagement to marketing and collaboration. The discussion presented content creation as a growing field while acknowledging that building a reputation and securing significant commercial opportunities can take time.
